Psychology 101
Today we went back to Jenn's highschool to check out the 'pines' area where the smokers hang out. I was shocked to hear that in Bangor they have security guards that moniter the school, and that you needed a pass from the office to go to your car during school hours. That kind of shocked me a little...actually, it shocked me a lot. I remember highschool being a place where teachers would smoke pot with students....not that that's a good thing, of course. It just makes me wonder about the issue of control; at what point does controlling the will of another person become slavery? Is school a place where people are invited to explore facts/theories, or is it a place where we indoctrinate behaviour patterns? How does this translate into church patterns? Do people get together because they like eachother's company, or because it's expected of them?

I thought school was a place to get educated...??
So did I at one point...but if we are more concerned with simply keeping kids in a certain confined space for a certain amount of time, isn't that more like jail than education??
It's strange, I think because we're Canadian, we never really experienced the intense aftershock of Columbine. High schools in the US now seem to be the place where they teach fear and paranoia.
true, true.
Ask what life would be like without ANY controls. Chaos. Work of the devil. Be grateful for an education you didn't have to fight for, nor, in the Western world at least, did you have to pay for (pre University that is). Be grateful for the ability to learn where so many with "challenges" have to struggle. Education is not limited to school...but applies to church, your family, your environment, your peers. Who is your spiritual mentor? Do you consider him/her to be nothing more than a subject of indoctrination? Do you feel that what you learn at church is only mind-control? or worse, brain-washing? where do you draw the line between spiritual training, and a cult? Be careful where you tread - you may trample the flowers in your effort to cull out the weeds!
For those who are in Christ, we have the Spirit of God in us who teaches us all things, and will bring us into all truth. The word tells us to test the spirits to see whether they are false, to keep what is good and throw away what is evil. This is how I approach everything and everyone I come in contact with. Much damage has been done when people blindly follow a certain teaching, and do whatever they're told despite what they know in their hearts to be right. It hurts my heart when people answer serious questions with simple "that's just the way it is" answers. The Word tells us to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling"...this is seeking God with all your heart, soul and mind. Test ALL things, and keep hold of the truth always.
